Reflections Art Selections

Thank you to all of the Terrace Park School artists who submitted entrees for the 2022 National PTA Reflections art program!

Below are the 7 submissions that moved on to the Council level program.

Entry 1 - August (Visual arts)
Artist Statement: I drew a king cobra because I love snakes and the king cobra is one of my favorite snakes and because they're one of the snakes I am best at drawing. I think it's good to protect wildlife because they're cool and we need them.

Entry 2 - Jerome (Visual arts)
Artist Statement: It's a shark that's coming out of its egg case, and it relates to the theme by helping ban shark finning. It shows how cool sharks can look. It's going to help more sharks be there, and sharks are really cool. They help clean up dead whales so they're important to the environment.

Entry 3 - Meadow (Dance choreography)
Artist Statement: "We're in this together" with the song Shine a Light by Kaina. I will change the world by being a good friend to everyone I meet. We need other people in our lives, other people we can relate to and who relate to us. Other people that we get along with. Friends lift each other up and are always there for each other. It sounds cheesy, but it's true. And it really can make a change.

Entry 4 - Thomas (Music Composition)
Artist Statement: "Discovery" written and performed by Thomas Peterson. This composition is my first time writing my own music as a fairly new piano student. I call it "Discovery" because it shows my journey to discover what I can do with this new skill. I think it relates to the Reflections theme this year "I will change the world by" because it is about me finding a voice and this is how I think I help change the world, by adding my voice. Music explores notes that conflict and harmonize, and at the end there can be a resolution. I wrote this piano song because learning piano is an inspiration to me, and I hope it can be for others, too, as they start their journey to find and add their voice.

Entry 5 - Anahata (Visual arts)
Artist Statement: "How to Change the World" In the middle there is a drawing of me. Around it are 4 pictures of how I can change the world.

Entry 6 - Jae-hee (Visual arts)
Artist Statement: "My Campsite" I crafted this campsite with my imagination. Something I think is really important is creativity. I've always wanted to camp before, but I never got the chance to. I imagined what camping feels like, setting up the tents, roasting marshmallows, making smores, so I decided to make my own model of it. It took a lot of hard work and creativity, but I made it. When I looked at my masterpiece, I felt that I was in a REAL campsite, camping in a place that had nature and animals. I hope you like my art!

Entry 7 - Ananya Yalamanchi (Film Production)
I like reading books about leaders. They changed the world by being patient and persistent. I use a story I heard from my mom that has the same lesson.
